Methodology

How engagement rate is calculated

Engagement rate by followers = average engagements per post ÷ followers, as a percentage. We average across the last 30 posts so a single viral hit doesn't distort the picture.

A number alone is meaningless — is 4% good? It depends on the niche. So we compute the median engagement rate across a sample of recent posts in the same niche and show it right beside yours.

Comments and shares count the same as likes here. They're harder signals to fake, so a healthy rate built on them is more trustworthy than one built on likes alone.

Why it matters

Numbers you can act on

Engagement rate is the first thing a brand checks before a paid partnership. Beating your niche median is a stronger pitch than a big follower count with thin engagement.

In ViralVault, every video you post is benchmarked against its niche automatically, so you can see which formats lift engagement over time.

FAQ

Common questions

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

It varies by niche and account size. Rather than chase a universal number, compare against your niche's median — which this tool shows directly. Above the median is good.

How is the engagement rate calculated?

Average engagements (likes + comments + shares) per post over the last 30 posts, divided by follower count, as a percentage.

Why does the niche median matter?

Because 4% might be excellent in one niche and below average in another. The median gives your number context.

Can I check any creator?
